We all know planning a wedding can be stressful, and when you strive to hard to have the perfect day, its very easy for a Bride to go from being a perfectionist to full blown Bridezilla. No one wants to be a Bridezilla and no one wants to be around one. Here are 13 tips to help you stay calm through the wedding planning process.
1. Remember that it is your day!
A big mistake brides tend to make is assuming their wedding is top priority to not only them, but to their loved ones. You need to remember that you cannot expect your loved ones to put their entire lives on a back burner just for your wedding.
2. Invest in a wedding planner.
It can become extremely time consuming trying to figure out caterers, music, and other wedding supplies. If you are one who can get easily stressed and overwhelmed, then it's in your best interest to hire a wedding planner. Find someone who is friendly, experienced, professional, who will help with costs, not be afraid to give you their personal opinion, and that will take the stress off of you.
3. Keep a manageable budget.
Money is a huge factor when it comes to stress. Every bride wants their dream wedding, but by shooting for goals that are out of your pay range will turn you rabid. Create a budget and stick to it, keep you and your future husband out of debt.
4. Be Flexible.
This comes back to remembering that your wedding isn't everyone's top priority. So make sure you adapt to anything that happens, whether is be a bridesmaid or groomsmen can't do one of their obligations, any vendor changes, and any guest list issues.
5. Don't be afraid to take a break.
Your wedding is important, but so is your mental health. So remember to take a step back and take a breather. Do something that isn't wedding related. Or even schedule specific days to be days you focus on wedding planning. By doing so, it'll help you avoid becoming a Bridezilla.
6. Avoid event overload.
You don't need a party for every little wedding thing. Your wedding itself is already going to be one big party to plan, so you don't need several other parties before hand. Keep the main thing your biggest priority.
7. Accept that things can and will go wrong.
It happens to us all. Nothing will ever go according to plan, and that is okay! The only thing that will make your wedding perfect is that you and your groom are happy on your big day.
8. Vent, but in a healthy way.
Don't take your stress and frustrations out on some innocent bystander. Find an outlet for it all, whether its talking to your fiance, mom, or friends. Do something that you enjoy to take the stress off, like crafting or even going to the gym. Whatever it takes to help you get through the planning process.
9. Don't Compare.
Each wedding is just like the individuals who are getting married. They are unique in their own way, so don't compare your wedding to others. It'll cause you to second guess your decisions when you try to hard to compare to others. Breathe – this is not a competition.
10. Ignore any unnecessary input.
It's okay to stand your ground on your opinions and desires, especially when you have overly opinionated friends and family. You are allowed to be angry and firm (in a respectful manner) to others on occasion when dealing with stressful situations without being called a Bridezilla.
11. Take care of yourself and your body.
Remember, YOUR HEALTH is important! Make sure you are getting the right nutrients and that you are staying hydrated. Make sure you have enough energy to get through your day and the days leading up to your wedding. No one wants bags under their eyes and colorless skin on their big day.
12. Have Fun.
You can get lost in the planning process, and when the big day comes, it can go by in a flash. So when you wake up that morning, remember to have fun no matter what. Those tiny details aren't going to matter years down the road, only how you and your groom felt.
13. Remember what the day is actually about.
This may sound obvious, because who forgets why they’re having a wedding? Bridezillas, that’s who. Remember what is more important on your wedding day. This day is about marrying the one you love and showing your commitment to each other and to your friends and family.
Keep everything from above in mind and things will go much smoother. At the end of the day you’ll be married to your love. That definitely beats any other aspect of your wedding.
