Mini Sessions: A Quick Guide on What to Expect

Most people are strapped for time but this doesn’t mean we don’t want to enjoy and capture the special moments – they do fly by so quickly after all.  Fortunately, if time constraints have been preventing you from scheduling a professional photography session, mini sessions are the solution you’ve been searching for.

The What:  Mini sessions are basically shorter portrait sessions that are offered at a reduced price and include fewer images.  While you won’t be able to change outfits or locations, you will still get a perfect set of images.  The average mini session lasts about 20 – 30 minutes.  Most photographers will edit the photos and make them available to you in an online gallery.  This way you can download and print them whenever you’re ready or purchase prints and canvases of your favorite images.

The When:  You’ll find that most photographers limit mini sessions to only a few per year.  You may find they are popular around the holidays.  Mini sessions are great for getting a few photos to send with your cards or use as custom holiday cards.  To make sure you don’t miss out on these photography sessions, get on the e-mail list so you can be notified.  You can sign up for our e-mail list here.

The Where:  Mini sessions generally take place at a very specific location in order to save time and because photographers schedule several sessions back to back.  So keep in mind that you may have to travel for these sessions, but it will be worth it.

The Outfits:  What you decide to wear to your mini session is entirely up to you.  It all depends on why you’re taking the photos, the story you’re trying to tell and what you feel most comfortable in.  If you’re feeling unsure, ask your photographer for a few quick tips.

Overall, mini sessions are ideal for anyone who has a busy schedule, limited budget and wants a few professional photos.  Just keep in mind that these sessions are restricted, so make sure that you choose the right photographer before you book them.
